The purpose of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers.  MOPS International is a nondenominational organization that exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban, and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single, and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be!  MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy to kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.

Child Care Provided

While moms are together, MOPS cares for children through the MOPPETS program.

About MOPPETS (A MOPS Member's Child)

Mothers care deeply about their children.  They’ll instinctively look to meet their child’s needs before thinking about their own.  A mom needs assurance about her child’s well being and happiness before she can get the most of her time in MOPS.

MOPPETS contributes to meeting the needs of children, as well as the needs of their moms.  MOPPETS’ quality care and biblical teaching impact the entire family.  MOPPETS provides a caring atmosphere for children which: Provides loving, quality care for each child.

The MOPS Story

Eight women.  The number was small, but the need was great.  The first MOPS meeting took place in February 1973 in Wheatridge, Colorado.  For two hours these mothers talked, laughed, ate, passed a basket a basket for childcare expenses, had a craft demonstration, and ended with a short devotional.  In this humble beginning, the seeds of the MOPS concept and format were planted.  Through friendship, creative outlets, and instruction, the women began to understand that “mothering matters.”  Today, the same needs for significance are met in much the same way in MOPS groups across the United States and around the world.
